Description

To say that this Tayana 52 is cruise ready is an understatement. She received a comprehensive refit in 2013/14 and has been continually cared for by her knowledgeable owners.  This shoal draft 52 has received the utmost care and her knowledgeable owners have made significant and thoughtful upgrades throughout. Her 3 cabin aft cockpit layout provides comfortable sea berths offshore and an interior built for extended stays thanks to the cockpit arrangement.  Her teak interior glows and she has one of the most purposeful galleys found aboard.  Give the listing a careful reading and you will see that she is the perfect choice for a cruising couple looking to scratch Caribbean cruise off of the bucket list.  Highly Recommended.

Interior Accomodations

Upon entering the companionway the first thing you will notice is the vast amount of space afforded by the vessels aft cockpit arrangement. Unlike center cockpits where the main salon is robbed of space by the aft cabin the Tayana 52 feels huge and airy.  A head is found immediately to starboard which allows a wet crew member to change without tracking salt water into the interior.  The twin aft cabins are roomy with plenty of storage.  The twin aft cabin layout is preferred by offshore sailors as the aft end of the boat has the least motion and there is a place to brace yourself while sleeping on either tack.  Engine and generator access is gained by removing the companionway steps or by removing side panels in either of the cabins.

A large offshore galley can be found to port.  Well insulated refrigeration and freezer space keep provisions fresh with minimum amp draw by the refrigeration system.  The U shaped cut out aft of the sink is a convenient place to lean against when making Beef Bourguignon in the Gulfstream.  Counter space abounds which is a rarity on cruising sailboats.

The forward facing Nav Desk is opposite.

A long settee is found ahead of the of the nav station and the U-shaped settee to port is perfect for entertaining.  Cream colored ultra leather upholstery perfectly suits the space and compliments the varnished teak and cherry woodwork smartly.

The master cabin features a centerline berth with ensuite head.  A sink with H/C pressure water shares the space.

Opening ports and hatches abound.

Vessel Overview

Robert Perry has written that the Tayana 52 is one of his favorite designs. Blending a low freeboard with a long waterline and a moderate beam, the Tayana 52 appears to be moving even when it's tied to a dock.  Side decks are wide and deck space is abundant. Wither her cutter rig, she is remarkably seakindly for such a powerful hull and sail plan. Tayana 52's have won major offshore races and have been owned by such knowledgeable sailors as Lowell North (North Sails Founder) and Craig Breedlove (land speed record holder, 500 MPH). In many ways it can be said that the Tayana 52 is the kind of yacht that racing sailors choose to cruise. With the upgraded Leisure Furl boom and electric winches, she easily handled by a couple or singled handed by an able sailor.  Construction is hand-laminated fiberglass with PVC foam sandwich core.   This construction method provides excellent strength to weight ratios and offers superior thermal and acoustical insulation when compared to a single skin laminate.

Isophthalic gelcoat on all exterior fiberglass surfaces is just one of the details that exemplify the quality of build. A matrix of longitudinal and transverse foam-cored stringers in the lower hull provide maximum hull stiffness. Internal ballast glassed into a modified shoal draft fin keel make her a perfect choice skinny water. A skeg-mounted rudder, with internal stainless steel rudder post and integral stainless steel reinforcement, make her track as if she were on rails.  The rudder design is extremely strong and provides lift upwind.

This Tayana 52 is in superb condition and her upgrade list is extensive.  A careful reading of the listing will indicate the excellent care she has received.  There are very few boats on the brokerage market that are as capable as this 52 and none are as ready to sail as this one.

Hull and Deck

The Tayana 52's T-shaped cockpit is as classic as it gets when it comes to bluewater passagemakers.  Angled comings and bench seats long enough to lay on are two features that the crew will celebrate after their first watch.  Electric primaries coupled with a well-organized cabin top clutch system make sail handling from the cockpit easy and safe. The electric cabin top winch makes hoisting the main a push button affair.  Kato Davits and a folding Lewmar folding wheel are just a few of the cockpit details that show the care and thought that her knowlegable owners have put into the boat.
