Boundless (previously Avida) was meticulously custom built by Alwoplast in Valdivia, Chile. Subsequently, she was cruised by her original owners from Chile to the Caribbean and spent two years in the Med before heading back to the Caribbean for another round. She was purchased by her current owner in Panama in the fall of 2014 and then cruised the coast of Central America to Florida. In the summer of 2015, Boundless was sailed to Rhode Island where she underwent a major professional refit by Aquidneck Custom Composites, including a complete exterior paint job. Following her refit, she was sailed back south to the Exumas where she has been lightly cruised during the winters of 2016 and 2017. When not in the Bahamas (June-November), she is stored on the hard in Saint Augustine, FL. Since her refit, she has been maintained in pristine condition and is ready to take her next owner anywhere in the world.

The Atlantic 57 was designed as a fast, safe, comfortable cruiser and is a joy to sail and live aboard. The forward cockpit is optimized for single or shorthanded sailing making all sail changes easy and safe. While the protected pilothouse helm station offers total watch keeping comfort for the crew in all conditions.

Built entirely of vacuum bagged epoxy/S-glass/Kevlar/carbon with thick foam cores, her construction is rugged but lightweight.

A powerful sail plan with all carbon spars carrying Ullman carbon/vectran laminated sails coupled with deep asymmetric dagger boards means there is not a similar sized cruising cat anywhere that will exceed the upwind performance of Boundless.

Atlantic 57 Boundless


Hulls constructed of vacuum bagged epoxy with Kevlar and S-glass laminates and Core-Cell SAN foam. Carbon stiffeners in high load areas.
Deck, cabin top, and bulkheads are constructed of vacuum bagged epoxy with carbon fiber laminates and Core-Cell SAN foam. Estimated to be 1200 pounds lighter than most Atlantic 57’s due to the extensive use of carbon fiber.
All exterior surfaces were faired, primed and professionally painted with Awlgrip paint in November 2015. Hulls are Kingston Gray with Bright Red Orange boot strips and the deck is Matterhorn White with Chevy White non-skid. The aft and forward cockpit soles are finished with a striped nonskid detail of Whisper Gray. It’s an amazing color combination!
Crossbeams are built of uni-directional carbon fiber/epoxy with foam cored epoxy/glass bulkheads.
Extensive use is made of uni-directional carbon fiber reinforcement in high load areas of hulls and decks.
Interior joiner work and floorboards are all cored panels to provide stiffness at low weight.

Propulsion and Steering
Twin Volvo D2-55 (55 HP) diesel sail drive engines (680 hours starboard and 2288 hours port as of August 2017). The starboard engine has lower hours because it was replaced in 2014. Port sail drive (not engine) was replaced 11/2014.

Navigation Electronics
Three complete instrumented helm stations are provided so the information you need is always close at hand.

Forward cockpit: Boundless includes a full chart plotter in the forward cockpit, along with autopilot, wind and other instruments, and engine controls. Having the chart plotter at the
forward helm is valuable safety feature when struggling to navigate under difficult conditions.

Inside pilothouse helm: When the weather gets bad, the full helm with chart plotter inside the pilothouse is the place to be.

Nav station: A laptop computer running MaxSea integrated with the Furuno systems provides a 3rd chartplotter, along with autopilot, wind and other instruments.

Water Heater
ITR diesel on-demand hot water heater. Uses very little fuel, heats up fast, and you’ll never run out of hot water.

Air Conditioning
8000BTU, 230VAC Dometic VTD8KZ-HV air conditioning, with electronic thermostat control. This unit is configured to cool the pilot house and port midship cabin only, other areas are marginally cooled. It is used when sitting at a dock only, because otherwise it would run the batteries down in 8 hours or so, but it could be used while motoring /motor sailing- one alternator can more than power this unit. This unit is a life saver when sitting at a dock in a hot/humid environment yet doesn’t add all the weight or space of a complete air conditioning system.

Rails and Lifelines:
Upgraded through-bolted 316 stainless stanchions and spectra lifelines (new 11/2015). These are a huge improvement over the original stanchions built by Alwoplast.

Lightning Protection System
An extensive lightning protection system was designed and provided by Dr. Thompson of
Marine Lightning Protection Inc., including the following: A ring of 00 gauge cable is embedded inside the joint between outer hull and deck, across the transom, and across the forward main bulkhead at the deck level. This ring forms a “faraday cage” to protect people and electronics inside the loop. Lightning rods tie into this loop with 00 gauge conductors: 1 at mast head, and 2 at the aft instrument poles. 6 underwater discharge plates, 2”x 36”, silicon bronze, are connected via 00 gauge cable to the ring, 1 forward, 1 aft, and 1 midships on each outer hull. 8 spark gaps are installed 6” above the waterline, and connected via 00 gauge cable to the ring. These act as reverse lightning rods, spewing a plasma of energy over a wide area of water when a lightning bolt hits; these are actually more effective than the underwater plates.

Special wiring
All DC and AC wiring is configured as “twisted pairs” to significantly reduce the EMP than can couple magnetically from the lightning bolt to the wires. All power to devices or instruments is run as a pair, and never with common/shared ground return paths, which can lead to major “loop areas” and susceptibility to lightning strikes.

Semi-gloss polyurethane finished “Nogal” Brazilian mahogany cabinets, desks, tables, door frames, fiddles and trim. Laminate soles in accommodation spaces, light teak color. Ultrasuede fabric for pilothouse settee seats and other cushions (new 11/2015)

Pilothouse settees
Port and starboard each have a wood table. Port side table is a movable “coffee table”; starboard table is a dining table configured so that it can be moved on the aft deck for open air dining, leaving a smaller sub-table in the pilothouse. Pilothouse settee seats have partitioned stowage beneath via lift out covers in the seat top.

Inside Helm Station (to starboard)
Has a 35# destroyer type wheel, with a 4” Ritchie illuminated compass. Chartplotter, wind and navigation instruments, engine control panel, throttles, Tank Tender 6 tank monitor, and VHF radio are all located within easy reach. A Herman Miller Setu chair with mesh back and seat makes for comfortable watches.

Pilot House Nav Station (to port)
Has an extra-large chart table (57” x 23”), with a lifting table top for chart storage inside. A file drawer (legal size), plus 3 pull drawers provide lots of storage. A Herman Miller Setu chair with mesh back is provided. Immediately to the left of this space is a custom cabinet that holds a printer/scanner/fax machine, and a large storage cabinet. This makes for a very efficient and practical office workspace. Directly in front of the nav station is an instrument panel including a VHF radio slave mic, the ICOM SSB radio, autopilot control, wind and nav instruments, the stereo system, communications outlets and jacks, AC outlets and 12VDC outlets.

Force 10 four burner propane stove with automatic temperature control oven and broiler.
Remote solenoid propane shut-off switch with propane leakage monitor. Three 17 pound composite propane bottles are located in a self-venting locker. Microwave oven installed in the galley over the propane stove. Entire propane system as well as the stove and microwave were new 11/2015. Galley sink is a large polished stainless steel bowl with strainers set flush into a Granicoat counter top. Hot and cold pressurized water delivered by single lever mixer. There are ample drawers, lockers and shelves for storage plus a built-in trash container.

A custom fabricated side by side refrigerator/ freezer (7 and 5 cu/ft capacity) is located in the galley, inboard side. Shelves included in each compartment. Each unit uses a separate highly efficient SeaFrost compressor with electronic control thermostat providing redundancy.

Aft Cabins (2)
Each hull has a separate aft cabin which contains a large double berth (queen size), hanging locker, built in dresser, two bench seats with stowage beneath seats and berth. A deck hatch and opening ports, plus two Hella fans provide excellent cross ventilation. Two reading lights are provided at the head of the bed.

Midship Cabins (2)
Each hull has a sleeping cabin amidships that contains a large queen sized berth, 2 hanging lockers, built in dresser, multiple storage cabinets, a bookshelf, mirror. A large deck hatch and two opening ports, plus two Hella fans provide excellent cross ventilation.

Heads (2)

Forward in each hull is a large bathroom. The sink area has a large cabinet under the polished SS sink, and a large medicine cabinet and mirror above the sink. The sink has a chromed single lever mixer faucet, and Granicoat counter top. Three towel rods and several clothes hooks are conveniently in reach. Forward of the sink is the toilet, with electric flush macerator pump plumbed to holding tank with valve for overboard discharge as well as pump out. Above the toilet is another storage locker. Toilets are custom made carbon fiber. Forward of the toilet, beyond a bulkhead with open passage cut through it, is the generous sized shower with shower curtain to keep the rest of the head area dry. The port shower has a raised bulkhead to allow filling with water for a bath, utilizing the unlimited hot water supply. The shower includes a waterproof light, and automatic electric sump pump. The forward bulkhead of the shower includes a large Lewmar hatch that provides access to the hull forward locker.

Workbench (port hull)
In the space where the galley sits starboard side, the port hull has a workshop with SS counter top at the inboard side. Significant drawer and lockers are provided for tool and parts storage above and below the workbench. Across from the workbench is a pair of large lockers, counter space and two-level bookcase.

Wet Lockers
In the port hull, outboard side, next to the workshop are two full height hanging lockers. One is used as a wet locker for foul weather gear, the other is general storage.

Forepeaks (2)
Large forepeaks are great for storage of sails, lines, fenders, fishing gear with lots of room to spare. They are accessible from both heads and the deck through large hatches. There is a built in ladder from the deck hatches.

Aft Deck/Cockpit
Four large lockers along the forward side of the aft deck provide a large amount of storage. Custom closed cell foam cockpit cushions with vinyl fabric (new 11/2015).
Dinghy hoist and tie down points are built into the aft deck.

Achilles HB-315LX rigid bottom inflatable dinghy (2009) with 15 HP four stroke Yamaha outboard (new 11/2015). Includes charcoal gray Sunbrella cover (new 11/2015)

Outside Shower
A hot and cold water pressurized rinse station is installed on the starboard hull transom boarding platform.

Deck Washdown
Fresh water pump to for deck wash down is located in the forward locker and is connected to a 75’ retractable hose for access anywhere on the boat.

Hull Rub Rail
An external rub rail with solid aluminum cap provides great docking protection.

Custom composite passerelle with dedicated storage location in starboard forepeak.

Refit Details
Boundless underwent an extensive refit at Aquidneck Custom Composites which was completed in November of 2015, making her better than new. Here is a partial list of the upgrades:

Complete exterior Awlgrip paint job, including topsides and cabin, and nonskid deck. Included extensive fairing and sanding of the hulls for a yacht quality finish. This was a professional paint job with all deck hardware and hatches removed prior to painting.
The bottom was completely stripped and refinished with Interlux Interprotect 2000 epoxy barrier coat and Interlux Micron anti-fouling paint.
All new Ultrasuede interior cushions, including high density foam
All original stanchions (composite attachment) were replaced with through-bolted stanchions
Stainless lifelines were replaced with spectra
New galley stove and microwave
Complete new propane system with composite tanks
