Description
EXTREMELY RARE OPPORTUNITY!! 1925 28′ HICKMAN SEASLED!! AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A TRUE PIECE OF HISTORY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP!!
– This 1925 Hickman Sea Sled Sedan, Miss Lakeside is an outstanding example of the sea sled design pioneered by Albert Hickman. This one-of-kind boat – only one to be known to exist – features an inverted-V hull constructed with double-planked mahogany over steel-reinforced oak frames. The boat is 27.5′ in length and features a partially enclosed forward cockpit, an open rear cockpit, green upholstery, and dual rudders. Power comes from a Hall-Scott OHC straight-six turning a surface-piercing bronze propeller. The hull and the propeller generated endless discussions when they were introduced at the 1913 New York Motor Boat Show. The boat was owned and restored by Bill Harrah – Harrah’s Casino and later by America’s Cup Skipper Bill Ficker. It was later purchased by boat collector Alan Furth who kept the Sea Sled in Lake Tahoe, and it remained in his family’s collection until his passing in 1993. The next owner acquired it from Furth’s collection and commissioned a restoration from Tony Brown of Western Runabouts. Work was completed in 1994, and later that year the boat earned Best Vessel of Show and Best Engine of Show at the Tahoe Yacht Club’s Concours d’Elegance. The following year it won Best of Marquee at the Carnelian Bay Concours d’Elegance. This Hickman Sea Sled was donated in 2005 to the Tahoe Maritime Musuem. Current Seller bought it during the pandemic as the museum closed. Boat is in excellent condition, everything works. Last appraisal was in 2004 and boat appraised at $200k.
