Description
Without doubt, the 53 Hatteras Motor Yacht is the most successful medium sized motor yacht ever built, with over 600 of them between their various incarnations. The main flavors are the standard motor yacht, cockpit motor yacht, the extended deckhouse (ED) version of the early 1980’s, and the 53 Convertible which is the same hull. They were in production from 1971 to 1989, a full nineteen years. My view of why this yacht was so popular is a combination of excellent quality, good design, and a fair price. It certainly didn’t have anything to do with performance because it is a relatively poor performer. Coming in at a whopping 55,000 lbs. in its original version, you need 1600 HP or more to move this yacht at the kind of speeds people like to have today. Instead, you’re only going to get 850 from a pair of 8V71’s or 924 from the 6V92’s found only in the 1983-84 models of the motor yacht. In all the years of its production, the weight never changed much. The hulls and superstructure are built like a tank with the bottoms about an inch thick with balsa cored sides and decks.
This boat is in the Cape crossing marina as a very busy dolphins restaurant and tiki bar..
with an assumable slip that is the best hurricane hole on this side of Florida. The restaurant is a huge tiki bar right on the water and this is the only Marina within a 100 miles around that is a liver-board marina.

Water maker and ice maker is one of the main caption points of this deck. The many through Halls are for air conditioning, toilet waste, knot and depth finder. There is an 11 ft abs dinghy with a 9.9 Mercury motor and crane to lift this up and down from the flying bridge.
Additional Equipment
Unlike other manufacturers, Hatteras Yachts avoided using balsa wood cores in their hulls that tended to lighten the boat's weight to enhance the speed. But this inclusion also decreased the strength.
The hulls and sides of Hatteras watercraft are made with resin-infused solid fiberglass with no “fillings” to lessen the overall weight. Hatteras hulls feature a downward angle chine with hull side “step-outs” to help reduce spray while increasing the beam above the waterline for more cabin space. Hatteras Yachts will withstand more significant impact with less damage than others experience. Effectively absorbing a collision with a hidden log or other objects at sea can be a life-saving feature.
Navigation Systems
There is a simrad chartplotter with radar along with a Garmin map (gps) plus raymarine depth and autopilot along with simrad VHF. Rear cameras installed as well. New bridge VHF installed along with stereo.
Accommodations
In this well laid out though is three state rooms accompanying two passengers in each state room with a captain's quarters and queen bed. There are three heads on board two of which have showers. Each of the heads have been renovated and upgraded along with the galley and main salon. The front deck has a long bench seating area and the back deck has table and chairs for four. There is also plenty of seating in the flying bridge for the captain co-captain and several more.
Galley Equipment
Galley consists of new cooktop, two refrigerators and one deep freeze. Also included is a microwave that is run on an inverter if needed. All refrigeration runs on the inverter as well. New hot water heater for the boat is welcomed in the galley. Lvp flooring throughout the entire boat except for the midship State room and the Captain's quarters which is carpeted.
Mechanical Equipment
On board are two refrigerators and one deep freezer that is run by an inverter when the engines are not in use or you are not connected to shore power. The inverter also runs the microwave and several 110 plugs in the galley area. There is a water maker on board that produces 28 gallons per hour, and an ice maker on the back deck. We have a Kubota generator that is relatively new and is hardly ever used. The stackable washer dryer is whirlpool and works very well. There are four air conditioners on board conditioning different parts of the boat. There's a brand new hot water heater and new pumps for these air conditioners. There are also new pumps for the water system when out on anchor. Included is a 11-ft abs dinghy with a 9.9 Mercury engine that runs great.
The crane is remote control to lift the dinghy down into the water when needed.
