Description

Willet is one of approximately 27 boats built by Sunward Yacht Corp. in Wilmington NC and finished out by Rose Yacht interiors . These yachts gained fame when Walter Cronkite commissioned the build of Hull#17 S/V Wyntje. S/V Willet is Hull#18 and was commissioned in 1989 and given a master carpenter’s certificate.   She is a very stable, great blue water sailing vessel. Her 38 ft waterline quickly lengthens under sail and she has been seen to do 8+ knots for extended runs. Her Code Zero and Asymentrical on Bamar Endless furling move her along nicely in wind under 12 knots. At 15 knots her basic canvas will move her well and at 18 knots she comes into her own.   She is balanced and managebale with a solid turn of speed even in following seas. When the current owner was researching vessels suitable for his plans he contracted with Robert Perry N.A. to help evaluate potential purchases. Perry’s  comment on the Sunward 48 was  “…well, she’ll certainly stand up to her canvas.” and that she does.

The current owners have invested over $300K in upgrades and maintenance since purchasing Willet in 2011.  Recent highlights include:

ReLion Lithium Batteries
Balmar High Output Alternator
New Found Metals Portlights
Replaced Refrigeration Compressor & Evaporator Plate
Replaced Engine Mounts
Harken Electric Winch on Coach Roof
Harken Mainsheet Traveler
Code Zero on Top Down Furler
New Mainsail by Mack Sails

Accommodations

Willet is a large, comfortable yacht built to take you anywhere you wish to go in style and comfort.  Entering from the robust companionway you enter the spacious salon which is resplendent with the finest joinery.  The mahogany salon table has inlaid olive burl and both settees are highlighted by lockers adorned with leaded stained glass.

The Galley to starboard is a true sea going chef's dream, with huge refrigeration and freezer space, ample prep surfaces, double stainless sinks and an almost new Force 10 Stove/Oven. This complimented by a large number of lockers for flatware, cutlery and provisions.

The NavSta to port is also elegantly appointed with inlaid olive burlwood.

Turning aft past the NavSta one finds a workshop bench outboard complete with tool storage and vise.  To inboard is the large electrical service panel with breakers for all DC and AC systems.  Just aft of the electrical panels is the entry to the walk-in engine room where one will find most of the yachts key systems easily accessible.

Continuing aft in the passageway one enters the master stateroom with king size berth equipped with custom mattress.  The aft stateroom includes an ensuite head with separate shower.

Continuing forward from the Salon one finds ample locker storage outboard and entrance to the day head inboard.  Further forward one enters the large forward stateroom with queen pullman berth to starboard and additional storage and seating to port.

Electrical

Description of AC service –There are two 30 amp 120 volt AC power system services. These can be run independently, splitting the power into two separate 30 amp circuits (total 60 amps) controlled on the breaker panel. One side has a high Amp circuit for such as the HVAC and Inverter charger; the other has  High amp circuits for the Water Heater and Kitchen outlets. Alternatively, all circuits can be run from just one input by combining the two breaker sides with total amp draw reduced to 30 amps.

Description of DC service – ex: The DC System consists of a 400AH House Bank comprised of four (4) Group 31 size Lithium phosphate-iron ReLion Batteries and a single Group 27 AGM Deep Cycle Starter Battery. A fifth, 50 AH High Draw LiPO4 Battery is located under the windlass aft of the chain locker.  These LIPO4 batteries have onboard BMS to prevent overcharge and although slightly slower to charge and the charge density is lower than Cobalt Lithium used in automobiles and electronics, They are far safer and do not tend to catch fire!
