Description
SPARKMAN & STEPHENS SUNWARD 48
MAÑANA is a proven long distance cruiser, well equiped and ready for new owners to explore new destinations. He full keel and heavy displacement make her a comfortable off-shore cruiser. The accomodations below make for a welcoming environment and are well laid out for cruising.
MAÑANA is hull 22 built by Sunward Yachts/Bennet Brothers in Wilmington NC. Bob Yunaska, owner of Sunward Yachs, ( formerly the builder of Westsail 32 and 42) Al Mason, Rod and Olin Stevens all had design or build input into the the creation of this yacht.
It was known that in the late 1970’s Rod Stevens wanted his brother Olin to draw a good looking motor sailor fast and sea kindly. This was the design brief with Al Mason drafting and doing the calculations for the final result. This blue water hull was also able to travel the ICW as well with her ample rigs less than 64 feet.
This models gained fame when Walter Cronkite commissioned the build of Hull#17 S/V Wyntje. S/V Manana is the last of the series to be commissioned in 2000.
After Mañana was commissioned, she spent her early years in the southern states before moving north to Maine, where she continued to be cruised both offshore and along the Intercoastal waterway. The most recent owner, an experienced competitive sailmaker, has enjoyed six years with coastal cruising in Nova Scotia plus long offshore passages to the Caribbean and back, and more recently, along the intercoastal from Canada to Florida, ultimately delivering her to North Carolina (from whence she came), to be sold. She is a very stable, great blue water sailing vessel. And a most comfortable boat to live aboard. She has a great sheer line with ample waterline, is well balance balanced and easily managed by one or two, leaves behind little wake and can easily reach 8+ knots for extended runs.
The current owners have invested over $40,000 in upgrades and maintenance since purchasing Mañana in 2015.
Recent highlights and upgrades include:
- 2016 New Radar (Garmin )
- 2016 New North Sails 150% RF genoa UV and rope luff
