Description

OCEAN MOON represents a great opportunity to obtain a proven world cruiser for a fraction of the $2.0-2.3 million that a new Selene 49 costs today. Purchased in 2023 and very lightly used ONLY on Lake Champlain over the last three years, she’s a well-equipped capable cruiser poised to take her next owner on exciting adventures near or far.

The 2003 Selene 48 represents the essence of the modern bluewater trawler—a yacht designed not simply to cruise, but to explore. Conceived by renowned yacht designer Howard Chen and built by Jet Tern Marine, the Selene 48 quickly established itself as one of the most respected long-range cruising yachts in its class. Its classic raised pilothouse profile, Portuguese bridge, covered side decks, and full-displacement hull reflect a design philosophy centered on safety, comfort, and confident passagemaking rather than speed.

Powered by a single 330-horsepower Cummins 6BTA5.9-M diesel, the Selene 48 cruises efficiently at approximately 8 to 9 knots while delivering exceptional range and fuel economy. A full-length keel, substantial displacement, and robust fiberglass construction provide a remarkably comfortable motion underway, making the yacht equally suited for coastal cruising, the Great Loop, or extended offshore passages.

Below deck, the Selene 48 showcases the handcrafted teak joinery and thoughtful engineering that have become hallmarks of the brand. A spacious salon, well-appointed galley, raised pilothouse with watch berth, two comfortable staterooms, and generous machinery spaces create an ideal balance of luxury and practicality. More than two decades after its introduction, the 2003 Selene 48 remains highly sought after by experienced cruisers for its exceptional build quality, timeless styling, and enduring reputation as one of the finest passagemakers ever built in its size range.

GENERAL YACHT WALK-THROUGH & TOUR
Stepping aboard OCEAN MOON, our 2003 Selene 48, from the integrated swim platform, you're immediately welcomed into a spacious aft cockpit—an inviting outdoor living area ideal for entertaining, relaxing at anchor, or enjoying a quiet evening overlooking the water. Wide, covered side decks with substantial teak cap rails and sturdy handholds provide safe, easy access to the foredeck, a hallmark of the Selene's offshore pedigree. Navigating the decks in spirited seas is easy with high bulwarks, good traction and plenty of handholds from bow to stern.

Entering the salon through the handcrafted teak Dutch (split) door, you're greeted by the warmth of beautifully finished Burmese teak joinery, teak-and-holly sole, and an abundance of natural light streaming through large windows. To port, a comfortable L-shaped settee surrounds a high-low table for dining or entertaining, while to starboard there is a matching bench and custom cabinetry that create a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a fine waterfront home rather than a typical production yacht. Views of the water and surroundings are easy at a seated level.

Just forward lies the well-appointed U-shaped galley, thoughtfully positioned to serve both the salon and pilothouse. Granite countertops, generous storage, full-size refrigeration, and abundant workspace make meal preparation underway as practical as it is enjoyable. Beneath the galley sole, Selene's signature abundant storage provides ample space for provisions needed during extended voyages.

A few steps up brings you into the raised pilothouse—the operational heart of the yacht. Expansive windows provide commanding visibility over the bow, a full electronics console, and a comfortable watch berth to make this an ideal space for long passages. Port and starboard pilothouse doors offer direct access to the side decks, allowing the helmsman to move effortlessly between the helm and the foredeck during docking or anchoring. An internal half staircase leads seamlessly to the flybridge above.

Descending from the salon, the accommodations are arranged with comfort and privacy in mind. The full-beam owner's stateroom features a centerline island queen berth, abundant lockers and drawers, and a private ensuite head with a separate shower. A comfortable guest upper/lower stateroom provides excellent accommodations for family or friends, complemented by a second head with its own enclosed shower. Rich teak cabinetry and thoughtful details throughout create an inviting retreat after a day on the water.

Engine-room access is exceptionally convenient, reflecting Howard Chen's emphasis on owner serviceability. The machinery space is remarkably spacious for a yacht of this size, providing excellent access to the dependable single Cummins 6BTA 330-horsepower diesel, generator, fuel systems, and other critical equipment. This thoughtful engineering has long been one of the defining characteristics that distinguishes the Selene from many competing trawlers.

Completing the tour, the expansive flybridge offers panoramic views, a centerline helm station, generous guest seating, and ample boat deck space for a tender and crane hoist. Whether underway on an offshore passage or enjoying a sunset cruise with friends, the flybridge serves as an exceptional vantage point from which to experience the journey.

Throughout the yacht, every detail reflects the Selene philosophy: purposeful engineering, timeless craftsmanship, and the confidence to venture well beyond the horizon. More than twenty years after her launch, the 2003 Selene 48 remains one of the most admired and capable long-range cruising trawlers ever built.

SELENE YACHTS HISTORY: BLUEWATER VOYAGING
Since its founding in 1998 by Taiwanese naval architect and entrepreneur Howard Chen, Selene Yachts has earned an enviable reputation as one of the world's premier builders of luxury expedition yachts. Conceived for discerning owners who value capability as highly as comfort, every Selene is designed to inspire confidence on the open ocean while surrounding its crew with the warmth and elegance of a finely crafted home.

Built by Jet Tern Marine, Selene yachts blend timeless lines with purposeful engineering. Their distinctive raised pilothouses, full-displacement hulls, and richly finished teak interiors reflect a philosophy that places seaworthiness, efficiency, and craftsmanship above passing trends. From the beginning, Howard Chen envisioned yachts capable of crossing oceans in safety and comfort—vessels equally at home exploring the rugged coastlines of Alaska, cruising the Mediterranean, or undertaking transoceanic passages.

The name Selene, borrowed from the Greek goddess of the moon, symbolizes exploration, guidance, and the enduring allure of distant horizons. That spirit has shaped the brand for more than a quarter century as Selene yachts have carried owners to some of the world's most remote and spectacular cruising grounds.
Today, Selene yachts are built at Jet Tern Marine's modern waterfront shipyard in Zhuhai, China, where experienced craftsmen combine traditional woodworking with advanced composite construction and meticulous engineering. The result is a fleet renowned not only for exceptional build quality but also for remarkable longevity and enduring value.

More than just luxury motor yachts, Selene vessels are true passagemakers—designed for owners who measure success not by speed, but by the freedom to venture farther, stay longer, and experience the world's oceans with confidence, grace, and uncompromising comfort. It is this unwavering commitment to quality and bluewater capability that has established Selene as one of the most respected names in luxury long-range cruising.
