Eco-Trawler 33 Overview
The Eco-Trawler is a 33-foot welded aluminum full displacement trawler built in the USA. Designed with an 8-foot beam, it is legally trailerable anywhere in the US. Weighing 7,000 pounds it can be pulled with a modest tow vehicle. Aluminum is light, strong, corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic, and non-toxic making it the most eco-friendly material to use in boat building.
The Eco-Trawler is designed by Don O'Keeffe, a Naval Architect. The length to width ratio along with the fine bow entry allows this full-displacement trawler to reach speeds up to 15 knots (18 mph) with twin 50 HP outboards. The hull cuts through the water like a displacement boat with very little bow rise and no bow wave to speak of. The boat does not pound in 4-5 foot seas at 12.5 knots (15 mph). A full keel adds stability and allows for a draft of 21" which is a big plus in shallow water.

There are no thru-hulls and this is accomplished by the outboard engines, roof-top air-conditioning, and the compost head. With outboards there is less chance of oil, coolant, or fuel spills. With a composting head, there are no pump-outs needed and less chance of accidental contamination of our waters and less maintenance due to holding tank and plumbing issues.

Much thought and research was given to the components that keep the systems as simple as possible and yet afford the creature comforts that most of us want in a boat. The interior features 8-inch thick custom mattresses and dual helm chairs with arm rests. A deep self-draining cockpit for fishing, lounging, and additional storage compartments is another plus. By land or by sea, the floating aluminum ladder for the swim platform works equally well for boarding. For overland trips staying in truck stops along the way takes advantage of the self-contained features of the Eco-Trawler.

The Eco-Trawler is a versatile cruiser, ideal for fishing and fun on the water. It is also suitable for anyone interested in live-aboard cruising, such as navigating the Great Loop, the Inner Pass
